Hello from the West Coast! So this year for my birthday, instead of going home to Miami 😉 my girlfriend convinced me to go to LA. April was a very busy month for me so the last thing on my mind was anything birthday related. Between the semester ending and changes going on at work, I had no time to plan. I am usually the one planning everything so not having control over that was difficult. I am very happy I did go because it ended up being one of the best trips I’ve taken.
My brother and sister also share birthdays in April, so we made it an Aguilar (my last name) vacation trip. Along with my sibs, my two best friends, and cousin from Miami joined us. I was already jet-lagged and just tired from not getting enough sleep these past months, that I just wanted to relax by the pool and do nothing. That ended up not happening. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we were making moves!
We arrived Thursday morning and caught a red-eye Sunday night so we spent a good four days exploring all of LA. I think four days was surely enough for me. 🙂 SO here is what we did while in LA…
We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard L.A. LIVE in downtown LA. Everyone was so welcoming and sweet to us. They were even able to give us an early check-in. 🙂 We spent the day in downtown LA, having lunch and just getting settled in.
The evening quickly crept up on us. We were all so tired, especially me running on 36 hours of NO sleep. We all headed back to the hotel and got ready for the night!
We didn’t really do much research on LA’s nightlife so we asked a few hotel employees where to go. It was a very interesting night to say the least. We were all so hungry so our first stop was 18 Social inside the Indigo Hotel. The place itself was beautiful and the views of LA breathtaking, but as far as their food? Horrible. This is definitely not a place you’d want to go to if you’re hungry.
We then headed to Hollywood Blvd to Calle Tacos and let me tell you, they were fire! I’m a huge fan of tacos but not all tacos spots have tasty tacos, this one sure did! We then went to Hollywood Hookah for drinks and hookah. The ambiance was chill but the service was horrible and their employees along with the manager all gotta be canceled. Did we have bad luck or nah? We left that place and literally went back for more tacos. 😀
Friday we woke up, had breakfast at the hotel, and headed out to Universal Studios.
I felt like a kid again! Last time I had gone was as a child in Orlando. I relived all those memories.
My friends and I always seem to be hungry lol. Before getting on the rides of course we ate. We went to Margaritaville inside Universal Studios. I got their shrimp tacos and pasta, both so yummy!
We spent all of Saturday exploring Venice Beach. The weather was nice with a slight breeze. Unfortunately for me it was way too cold to get inside the water so we skipped that. We watched the street performances and snacked on delicious fresh fruit.
In and out was definitely on my to-do list while in LA. We don’t have any in DC so you know it was a must for me. Girl, I had two burgers lol. I didn’t like the fries but the burgers were so good!
We got back to the hotel around 7:30 pm and had 20 mins to nap before we headed back out. We went to the Griffith Observatory and with LA’s traffic didn’t get there until the sun started setting. The Griffith observatory overlooks Los Angeles Basin and surrounding area. Sadly, we didn’t get a good view of the Hollywood sign but I guess that will have to wait until my next visit to LA.
Our last day in LA was spent brunching and visiting Melrose Place. We went to Perch for brunch and eat got their burgers. Burgers were definitely the thing this trip 😀
Being in Melrose Place felt like Instagram in real life. Every turned I’d make it was like “oh, I’ve seen that on Instagram!” We went to Carrera Cafe for some coffee. The print art was so pretty on my latte, I didn’t even want to drink it. The baristas were so sweet (first nice people in LA) and the cafe’s ambiance was very relaxing.
The famous Pink Wall was just outside of the cafe so of course, we had to take a few pictures!
We walked down Melrose Ave since I wanted to also visit Alfred Tea. Yeah, I know, coffee then matcha tea? Don’t worry my tummy survived that! Melrose reminds me a lot of Georgetown, DC with all its shops and places to eat.
Loved all the pink vibes!
Overall, LA was a lot of fun!! My friends and siblings made it that much more. I did leave wondering where all the nice people were lol because only until I got to Melrose Place was everyone sweet!
